- About
life and ecology at high temperatures in
Yellowstone National Park.

The photographs of
thermophiles provide a landscape of their own and offer a rich resource
for photographers. From bacterial mats to temperature segregated forms
the microbes of Yellowstone are fascinating on many levels.
There is a real competition between the aesthetic
value and scientific value of thermophiles in Yellowstone National Park.
Over the last 15 - 20 years the scientific community has become more
and more interested in life at high temperatures. It has only been in
the last 5 to 6 years that the popular mind and the aesthetic mind has
found interest in these organisms.
I
watch, and study, and photograph these organisms and their
environment from an aesthetic point of view. The patters and colors
constantly transfix me. I am perpetually amazed and occasionally
stupefied by the diversity, pattern, organization, and dynamics of
these organisms.
The galleries that I
have developed and posted here are images that appeal to me, (in whole
or in part,) as an artist. Pattern, color, contrast, texture, motion, and diversity are all
bits of what attract me. Most of all, I just like them.
As time goes by , of course, scientific descriptions will accompany the
location information. For now, they are presented for your, (and my,)
enjoyment.
